Authenticity

Learning begins from within, and it is of utmost value that individuals become aware of themselves. Getting to know the way our mind, body and emotions work is the first step in helping us understand and accept our strengths and weaknesses. That way, we begin to build strong, solid foundations on which our personalities can arise. We believe that real education is one that allows every individual to grow into their authentic- or ‘naisargic’- selves. It entails a total immersion in life, using freedom and self discipline as guiding tools. An equally important part of being authentic is recognizing others’ inner potentials and helping create an atmosphere where others can be authentic as well.

Exploration

Learning is a continuous process, and we wish to create the best possible environment where children and adults are able to nurture their innate curiosity. Exploration results from a deep engagement of the individual and the world around them, and everything that is ‘taught’ or ‘learnt’ in class and beyond will assist in cultivating a life-long habit of inquiry.

Interdependence

At Nisarga, outer learning is always accompanied by the understanding that ‘I’ am not the only one who is. Through all the outer learning and interactions we have with the world around us, we attempt to heighten our sensitivity and see the inherent interconnections of all things. This ultimately gives rise to feelings of gratitude, respect and compassion towards people, animals and the natural world. These feelings also form the basis for our desire to work for others.

Endurance

Another inevitable realization we face in our process of learning is that life is full of challenges. The community at Nisarga, in our contemplative approach, wishes to take on difficulties and challenges as opportunities to help build endurance and self-discipline rather than as debilitating experiences that inhibit growth.

Simplicity

We live distracted lives in a world that offers more than we need. Over indulgence can only be replaced by simplicity when we find value in what we already have. When we begin to find contentment in our learning, our relationships, and our beings, we will naturally begin to appreciate the simple way of life.

Life skills

We understand that the main purpose of education is not just to help students to pass exams. Real learning equips individuals for all the challenges that come their way. At Nisarga, we emphasize the acquisition of life skills, helping students to gain skills that they can carry with them all through their lives.
